Opening a bookstore is more expensive than I thought. I burn through a lot of personal capital.

It’s very concerning. A real worry.

In the end, though, I design a beautiful store.

I drive my father over to the store before we open.

“I have a gift for you,” I say.

“What are you talking about?”

I pull up to the bookstore. My dad looks at the big sign showing the store’s name:

RJ JULIA

His mother’s Hungarian name was Juliska—Julia in English.

“I wanted to honor your mother’s dedication and love of learning,” I say. “How it can change lives.”

My father can’t avoid being emotional. As much as he was opposed to me leaving my job, he’s pretty damn happy to see a building named after his mother filled with books.

Now we are both happy. My grandmother’s legacy is established and thriving. And I have followed my heart.
